Douglas Coupland (2011 -2014)
In Couplands’ view, the ‘post internet brain’ is reference to the 21st century ‘condition’ in which we have been affected by the digitally versed millenial. We are a generation growing up in the digital age.
Coupland produced set of rectangle blocks that were text based; these were statements/thoughts from the artists around the notion of the digital age. The way the blocks have been installed has resembles what it’s like to scroll through the internet; you are bombarded with information, text, images etc.
In this century everybody feels the need to document everything they do; and if I’m honest I am guilty of this to a certain degree. If you think about it; we are all creating an ongoing archive which in the future could be the document of our history.
My thoughts
I think that this is an interesting idea and really highlights how the world is working and changing. Also I like the style of the posters; simple yet effective. No imagery is needed, the words speak for themselves.
