In this video it talks about the world emoji expanding and how they are conquering the digital communication by allowing you to express your feelings and personality through text.
It shows how there’s even websites that you can use to create a new emoji by mixing up the existing ones. You can unofficial emoji’s from websites and apps such as the star wars app which allows you to download your favourite characters. Another big thing on social media is the use of GIF’s which was highlighted on the star wars app; I’ve noticed this myself by being able to get them on facebook message and seeing many posted on facebook and twitter on a daily basis. Also a group of people decide on what emoji’s are available to users on your phone; these decisions are based on the demand for the emoji by the consumer etc..
Then the presenter moves on to question whether we have become too obsessed with emoji’s and highlights the Mcdonald emoji advertisement as a prime example of this. She suggests that are we just mindless yellow blobs going through life just documenting our food and living for social media.
Although she is commenting on the use of emoji’s in a negative way she has also made it clear that emoji’s are current, popular, understood by the mass; so why not capitalise on this and use them to my advantage?
