A Conversation - Mcdonalds billboards

On my travels I have come across these McDonalds billboard advertisements which are quite interesting in the way that they have used Emoji’s to tell a story. In nearly all of the billboards Mcdonalds present the idea that there is some sort of struggle or upset before reaching mcdonalds and once they are there their emotion changes from being sad to happy. 

Although the billboards are quite simple they are quite effective as the message comes through quite easily which is what is needed for a billboard advertisement as people don’t have the time to read loads of text when they are walking/ driving past. The whole aim is to represent ‘good times’ through emoji’s which I think was done successfully. 

However, when searching for the billboards I came across ones that people had edited to make Mcdonalds look like a bad place to eat. So when doing an ad campaign you have to be careful what you put out and where as the consumers opinion may affect how successful the whole campaign is. 


I could try using emoji’s in my campaign to get the message across quickly, however will everyone come to the same conclusion as some people interpret some emoji’s in different ways.
