A Conversation - Survey findings

After doing the previous primary research I decided to gain some more primary research but this time have some questions related to music. My questions were in relation to age, what emoji’s they use, what they use to listen to music and do they realise that there’s derogatory language in music.

I had a mixed response from this; most of the people who answered were 19-25 which was to be expected as I posted it on my facebook and then into the university groups that I’m part of. Although I was limited with age, I feel that this is my target market for the campaign as this is the audience that mainly uses emoji’s and listens to the type of music that I’m trying to name and shame.  From looking at the emoji’s people use I gathered that many users use the same ones which I realised in my previous research. The two main sources for music was youtube and spotify, which I find interesting as you can get lyric videos on youtube and on spotify there is a feature that lets you look at the lyrics to songs so you can sing along if you want to. So when moving on to the next question derogatory language it was no surprise that people already knew it was there. However, it was interesting to learn that about 25% of the people never thought about the language being used in songs.

So from this research I have learnt that there is still a need for this campaign as although people already know about the language being used, they need to be reminded and shocked with it to make an impact and change. This is why I aim to create posters that are striking and bold which aims to create a discussion on the topic.
